Look At Me, I’m Sandra Suy

August 7, 2013 by igetakickoutofyou

Leafing through Harper’s Bazaar España (which I’m becoming a huge fan of), I recognised the illustrative work of Barcelona based Sandra Suy. You might recognise some of her work from the illustrations commissioned for Chloe’s sixtieth birthday? A regular on most fashion illustration pinterest boards, particularly my own, she seems to capture the most feminine, almost feline qualities of our gender – and without doubt, the best dressed! With commissions from Missoni, Zara, L’Oreal and Truimph, it’s a clear sign […]

Ulyana Sergeenko AW'13 couture

Sergeenko’s Snow White

July 15, 2013 by igetakickoutofyou

The words “fairy tale” are often used when reviewing one of Ulyana Sergeenko’s collections and her Autumn Winter’13 Couture collection was no different. There was a Snow White in all her glory, a huntsmen in suspenders and a few wicked-queen headdresses, thrown in for good measure. For some it may be too much in the realms of fantasy land and it appears that some of the major publications are on the fence as to where she fits in the couture […]

George Hurrell, Jane Russell

George Hurrell – Shadowcaster

June 3, 2013 by igetakickoutofyou

“A Hurrell portrait is to the ordinary publicity stills what a Rolls-Royce is to a roller-skate”.          This is how George Hurrell, MGM’s main man, was described in Esquire magazine in 1936. Marlene Dietrich Veronica Lake George swept into town with the intention of becoming a painter, only once he started photographing heiresses, with his signature dramatic spotlight, creating sculptured cheekbones and glowing skin, he never looked back. Carole Lombard By 1929 he had a contract with […]

Project X Goes Live

May 6, 2013 by igetakickoutofyou

Firstly the pole shoot went well (I think)! I have yet to see the pics but we worked our backsides off and made a pretty good team, I might add. So I’m hoping there must be some money shots there. I certainly have the bruises to prove it! Watch this space people…. Secondly, I can now finally launch Project X. I have been collecting a few of my illustrations which people have “liked” on the blog and decided to get […]

Why Don’t You….watch “The Eye Has to Travel”

February 15, 2013 by igetakickoutofyou

I watched the documentary Diana Vreeland – The Eye Has To Travel over the weekend and it is an absolute must-see. I was totally transfixed from beginning to end. “I was the most hideous thing in the world”, Diana Vreeland told an interviewer in 1977 and perhaps because of this, she became the champion of the eclectic woman and the unconventional beauties of the world. I won’t spoil her story here, you must definitely watch the film, but she was well […]

Never mind the couture at Chanel what about those lashes? Weren’t they fantastic? Couldn’t resist putting pen to paper! Illustration by me, Images from Style.com And if you’ve ever wondered what goes into these collections, just take a look at this fantastic clip, courtesy of Refinery 29. To be able to create detail like that must be amazing. p.s. I’ve changed format again – the columns were driving me nuts!

All I Want For Christmas Is You

December 4, 2012 by igetakickoutofyou

Apologies for the lack of posts recently. It’s a busy time! I’ve spent the last couple of weeks sewing marabou feathers onto corsets and making red santa capes with extra strong velcro! The reason? We got festive this week, as The Pushettes (although this time only three) performed a burlesque gig, in Dulwich, for The Reliant Magazine Christmas Do. Needless to say I have now developed an allergy to marabou feathers and my fingers are black and blue from driving […]
