Horst’s Very Modern Muse

January 2, 2015 by igetakickoutofyou

This weekend is always a weird one – with one foot still clinging on to the over-indulgence of the past month and the other desperate to move onto a new chapter – you generally don’t know what to do with yourself. But what better way to start the New Year than with an injection of culture? If you’re in London there is only one weekend left to see the Horst exhibition at the V&A and it’s absolutely beautiful – so […]

Jean Paul Gaultier, Barbican

Behind Every Great Showgirl Is….. Jean Paul Gaultier

June 20, 2014 by igetakickoutofyou

I went to see the Jean Paul Gaultier exhibition at the Barbican yesterday and it was incredible. Funnily enough, my friend Jo and I had both been to see the Bond exhibition in the same exhibition space, and both of us said how off-putting the mannequins were. Just faceless black moulds of, what looked like, sponge. It was Bond for God’s sake – the great champion of glamazons. Well these mannequins were something else – they blinked, they talked and could […]

Anita Ekberg

An Ode to Anita

April 1, 2014 by igetakickoutofyou

Nobody did glamour like Anita Ekberg. Like a slinky silver fox she sashayed her way across the screen. Never will a sweetheart bust-line ever look so good!

Other Stories, Spring Summer 2014

Boho Loco…and Other Stories

March 21, 2014 by igetakickoutofyou

Other Stories have just released their online spring summer fashion story, featuring a bohemian parisian in an amazing apartment…..who happens to be slightly unhinged! But never mind that…look at the clothes. They are oh so good. Apparently there is a subtext, which points to the changes that need to be made to the way in which women are portrayed both in, and by the fashion industry. Hmmm…think I missed that bit – probably too busy looking at the clothes!

Marc Lagrange, Diamonds and Pearls

LaGrange’s Delta of Venus

August 20, 2013 by igetakickoutofyou

Delving into Marc LaGrange’s “Diamonds and Pearls” is a bit like delving into Anais Nin’s “Delta of Venus”. Anything is possible! Part eroticism, part burlesque and part grunge, his work has touch of Helmut Newton meets a Maharaja’s Folie Bergére. Sepia shots of kohl-eyed, diamond adorned, voluptuous bodies against gritty or theatrical backdrops. A particularly magnetic combination. Personally, I prefer the single portraits like the ones below, but some of the scenarios LaGrange cooks up are more than a little intriguing and, […]
