The Italians Get Thrifty

February 25, 2015 by igetakickoutofyou

I don’t normally blog about fashion week (let’s face it the world is bursting with them) but today, the first day in Milan, was such a hit of eclecticism, so far removed from the rather austere cocoon shapes, clean lines or fringed 1970’s nostalgia of the past couple of weeks and past seasons, it just needed to be posted. A mix of thrift shop chic from the 90’s – sheer lace, fur coats – 1940s florals and berets, embellished jumpers and […]

Home to Honey Rider

January 13, 2015 by igetakickoutofyou

How gorgeous is this house in East Sussex? I think it’s quite a favourite amongst homes magazines. You can see it’s entire fabulousness on Light Locations. In fact I am pretty sure that the gorgeous pin up girl in picture 3 is what inspired me to go and find my own J.H Lynch art work (My Own Honey Rider), a few years back. Do I want to hire it? More like move into it!

Shine On – Vogue 1974

January 12, 2015 by igetakickoutofyou

I found this gorgeous copy of October 1974 Vogue at a vintage fair this weekend – with sequinned peasant-esque dresses, it’s not difficult to see where inspiration for SS15 came from?

Massimo Dutti, Apres Ski

Anyone for Apres Ski?

October 20, 2014 by igetakickoutofyou

Totally in love with Massimo Dutti’s apres ski collection. But with the weather almost balmy in the UK, it might require a real visit to the slopes – what a shame! Next stop…. Verbier!

The Boys of Summer

July 3, 2014 by igetakickoutofyou

I’ve been dying to post this video of my fellow pushettes and I fire dancing at my friend Annia’s party, but the file refuses to download (grrr but weirdly happy to play on Facebook, what’s that about??) However Hedi Slimane’s recent Spring menswear collection has given me the perfect excuse to at least mention it. (And in the meantime I’ll be researching how to get this damn video thing going!) The brief for the party was “vintage festival. Us ladies […]

Jean Paul Gaultier, Barbican

Behind Every Great Showgirl Is….. Jean Paul Gaultier

June 20, 2014 by igetakickoutofyou

I went to see the Jean Paul Gaultier exhibition at the Barbican yesterday and it was incredible. Funnily enough, my friend Jo and I had both been to see the Bond exhibition in the same exhibition space, and both of us said how off-putting the mannequins were. Just faceless black moulds of, what looked like, sponge. It was Bond for God’s sake – the great champion of glamazons. Well these mannequins were something else – they blinked, they talked and could […]

Other Stories, Spring Summer 2014

Boho Loco…and Other Stories

March 21, 2014 by igetakickoutofyou

Other Stories have just released their online spring summer fashion story, featuring a bohemian parisian in an amazing apartment…..who happens to be slightly unhinged! But never mind that…look at the clothes. They are oh so good. Apparently there is a subtext, which points to the changes that need to be made to the way in which women are portrayed both in, and by the fashion industry. Hmmm…think I missed that bit – probably too busy looking at the clothes!
