Behind Every Great Showgirl Is….. Jean Paul Gaultier

June 20, 2014 by igetakickoutofyou

I went to see the Jean Paul Gaultier exhibition at the Barbican yesterday and it was incredible. Funnily enough, my friend Jo and I had both been to see the Bond exhibition in the same exhibition space, and both of us said how off-putting the mannequins were. Just faceless black moulds of, what looked like, sponge. It was Bond for God’s sake – the great champion of glamazons. Well these mannequins were something else – they blinked, they talked and could […]

The Showgirl Magazine

February 2, 2014 by igetakickoutofyou

So here she is. My major project. ‘The Showgirl’ magazine which I’ve been working on for the last month. Now you know why I’ve been so quiet. If you click on the image it will take you to the magazine! I hope you like it. Big thank you to Amanda, Annia, Linda, James, Kevin, Lee, Miranda and Sarah for the photoshoot. Boy do I need a drink! The Starlight Circus

January 7, 2014 by igetakickoutofyou

Stepping into the world of Rimel Neffati is like watching everything through a cloud of charcoal and starlight. The images could almost be illustrations in their surreality. But how magical are they – as if unearthed from some fantasy circus? Definitely one to explore further… Happy New Year!

Ellen Von Unwerth Channels The Follies

October 31, 2013 by igetakickoutofyou

Since writing the trend report on the Ziegfeld Follies, I’m starting to see the Alfred Cheney Johnston magic everywhere. Take a look at this cheeky photoshoot by Ellen Von Unwerth, featuring Camille Rowe, for Grey Magazine, it’s almost as if she’s taken a Follie girl into the backyard! The Pushettes are back in business this Saturday so fingers crossed it all goes smoothly. Hopefully I will have some pics to share next week.

Marc Lagrange, Diamonds and Pearls

LaGrange’s Delta of Venus

August 20, 2013 by igetakickoutofyou

Delving into Marc LaGrange’s “Diamonds and Pearls” is a bit like delving into Anais Nin’s “Delta of Venus”. Anything is possible! Part eroticism, part burlesque and part grunge, his work has touch of Helmut Newton meets a Maharaja’s Folie Bergére. Sepia shots of kohl-eyed, diamond adorned, voluptuous bodies against gritty or theatrical backdrops. A particularly magnetic combination. Personally, I prefer the single portraits like the ones below, but some of the scenarios LaGrange cooks up are more than a little intriguing and, […]

Project X Goes Live

May 6, 2013 by igetakickoutofyou

Firstly the pole shoot went well (I think)! I have yet to see the pics but we worked our backsides off and made a pretty good team, I might add. So I’m hoping there must be some money shots there. I certainly have the bruises to prove it! Watch this space people…. Secondly, I can now finally launch Project X. I have been collecting a few of my illustrations which people have “liked” on the blog and decided to get […]

Bunny Girls, Beasts & Bears

January 21, 2013 by igetakickoutofyou

Today I planned to do the next installment of my Buenos Aires collages but alas, the schools are closed because of the snow, so I will have two little people causing havoc today! So I thought, as a bit of a quickie, I would show you some new pin-up art that I’ve found by Natalie Krim. It’s a little more edgy than the 1950’s golden girls but totally ingenious. I absolutely look the bunny girls! If you get a chance, […]
