Jean Paul Gaultier, Barbican

Behind Every Great Showgirl Is….. Jean Paul Gaultier

June 20, 2014 by igetakickoutofyou

I went to see the Jean Paul Gaultier exhibition at the Barbican yesterday and it was incredible. Funnily enough, my friend Jo and I had both been to see the Bond exhibition in the same exhibition space, and both of us said how off-putting the mannequins were. Just faceless black moulds of, what looked like, sponge. It was Bond for God’s sake – the great champion of glamazons. Well these mannequins were something else – they blinked, they talked and could […]

It’s sure to be an incredible treat. So to get your taste buds […]

So here she is. My major project. ‘The Showgirl’ magazine which I’ve been working on for the last month. Now you know why I’ve been so quiet. If you click on the image it will take you to the magazine! I hope you like it. Big thank you to Amanda, Annia, Linda, James, Kevin, Lee, Miranda and Sarah for the photoshoot. Boy do I need a drink! Perfect Pointe

April 30, 2013 by igetakickoutofyou

How gorgeous is this shoot from an equally gorgeous blog called Travelling Mama? Makes me want to turn back the clock, be a ballerina, live in Copenhagen and ……organise my wardrobe while on pointe (perhaps not!) Love those colours and I’m all over those leg warmers: I have my own pole shoot on Friday and I’m hoping to include a few pics on pointe (if I can bear it!) Haven’t done that in a while, I can tell you. The […]

All I Want For Christmas Is You

December 4, 2012 by igetakickoutofyou

Apologies for the lack of posts recently. It’s a busy time! I’ve spent the last couple of weeks sewing marabou feathers onto corsets and making red santa capes with extra strong velcro! The reason? We got festive this week, as The Pushettes (although this time only three) performed a burlesque gig, in Dulwich, for The Reliant Magazine Christmas Do. Needless to say I have now developed an allergy to marabou feathers and my fingers are black and blue from driving […]

The Pushettes go Forever Crazy at Crazy Horse

October 30, 2012 by igetakickoutofyou

Today, and until the end of the week, I’m guest posting for PUSH Studios, as I’m helping them set up their blog. Do you remember The PUSHETTES? The burlesque/cabaret troupe I dance with for Push Studios? Well, for a little inspiration we thought we’d check out the créme de la créme of seduction at the exotic cabaret Forever Crazy, courtesy of the Crazy Horse Club in Paris. I can’t tell you how excited I was about seeing this show. You might have […]

Weimar Republic cabaret, Herr Kettners, 1920s black lace flapper dress, burlesque

Sequins from Weimar

June 25, 2012 by igetakickoutofyou

Our step back to the Weimar Republic at Herr Kettner’s was most enjoyable. The dress code stated “1920s Berlin, moustachioed dandies, dizzy flappers, monocled counts, decadent aesthetes, firebrand radicals, apoplectic Teutonic military officers, predatory cross-dressers, itinerant jazz musicians, black or white tie”. So of course, a little research was required, as seen below – courtesy of Marlene Dietrich, Henry and June, Cabaret and some decadent 1920’s fashion illustrations. Oh and the rather mischievous Clara Bow: Top illustration by me Marlene […]

The Rivoli Ballroom, Brockley, South London

Rocking the Rivoli

June 6, 2012 by igetakickoutofyou

Do you remember me talking about an “event” I was working on, but I was waiting for the pictures? Well finally I’m able to share them with you. So, imagine the scene – the Rivoli Ballroom. Built in 1913 as a picture palace, it now stands as one of the last remaining ballrooms in London. With original chinese lanterns, flock wallpaper, chandeliers and glitter balls, this is one cool venue. So cool, in fact, that the line up of gigs […]
