The Tale of Talitha

May 4, 2014 by igetakickoutofyou

Love this photo shoot by Tom Craig for Porter Magazine. Very reminiscent of the photographs Patrick Lichfield took of Talitha Getty, the queen of Marrakesh kool in the early 70s: It was here where he [Yves Saint Laurent] met one of his muses, the ill-fated and impossibly beautiful Talitha Getty (supposedly the only woman Rudolf Nureyev was ever attracted to). Her opulent Moroccan palace, which she shared with her oil heir husband was the setting for some of the decade’s most […]

Anita Ekberg

An Ode to Anita

April 1, 2014 by igetakickoutofyou

Nobody did glamour like Anita Ekberg. Like a slinky silver fox she sashayed her way across the screen. Never will a sweetheart bust-line ever look so good!

A Vintage Season for MMM

March 3, 2014 by igetakickoutofyou

I wasn’t intending on writing another post about Paris fashion week but I’ve been bitten by the bug! For any vintage aficionado Maison Martin Margiela’s AW14 collection was just full of inspiration – and a real direction change from previous seasons. Tweed and vintage slips – what more can a girl ask for? Long may it last!

Vintage Drama

December 12, 2013 by igetakickoutofyou

Rather loving these moody, vintage pics from The Gifts of Life tumblr. I love that indian sheer top – can that really be vintage? If so please can it  make it’s way to Syd’s Vintage in Kirkdale so I can purchase it?

Ellen Von Unwerth Channels The Follies

October 31, 2013 by igetakickoutofyou

Since writing the trend report on the Ziegfeld Follies, I’m starting to see the Alfred Cheney Johnston magic everywhere. Take a look at this cheeky photoshoot by Ellen Von Unwerth, featuring Camille Rowe, for Grey Magazine, it’s almost as if she’s taken a Follie girl into the backyard! The Pushettes are back in business this Saturday so fingers crossed it all goes smoothly. Hopefully I will have some pics to share next week.

Angela and Ithyle, collodian photography

Collodion

October 22, 2013 by igetakickoutofyou

I recently did a trend projection for LCF on the Ziegfeld Follies and I came across this beautiful collection of images by Angela and Ithyle using the traditional method of collodian photography. There’s such a fragility about them – almost eerie, like you’ve walked in on a moment that you shouldn’t have! Their talents don’t stop there either. You may remember this little video, for Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors Showcase, which went viral a couple of years ago: Bit […]

Style Crush – The Girl From Love Street

June 10, 2013 by igetakickoutofyou

I experienced a real stab of nostalgia while watching Mad Men this week. When Megan appeared in her indian hippie dress, it really took me back to my school and university days (an indie trend you understand, I wasn’t born until the seventies!) and a whopping great infatuation with all things bohemian. In sixth-form I had a huge girl-crush on a friend called Polly. She was in my English class and knew her literature like noone else, particularly poetry. She […]

George Hurrell – Shadowcaster

June 3, 2013 by igetakickoutofyou

“A Hurrell portrait is to the ordinary publicity stills what a Rolls-Royce is to a roller-skate”.          This is how George Hurrell, MGM’s main man, was described in Esquire magazine in 1936. Marlene Dietrich Veronica Lake George swept into town with the intention of becoming a painter, only once he started photographing heiresses, with his signature dramatic spotlight, creating sculptured cheekbones and glowing skin, he never looked back. Carole Lombard By 1929 he had a contract with […]
