The words “fairy tale” are often used when reviewing one of Ulyana Sergeenko’s collections and her Autumn Winter’13 Couture collection was no different. There was a Snow White in all her glory, a huntsmen in suspenders and a few wicked-queen headdresses, thrown in for good measure.

For some it may be too much in the realms of fantasy land and it appears that some of the major publications are on the fence as to where she fits in the couture trade. After all, shock – horror – she is untrained!

But what about the intricate detail and traditional craftsmanship? These are beautiful pieces. And surely her trademark fantasia pin-up is no different to Dolce & Gabanna’s Sicilian seductress – it’s just a question of horses for courses?
