Baby I’m Broke

February 8, 2013 by igetakickoutofyou

I love this picture by Sieff (1985), so simple but with the shadows from the window, so clever. I wanted to see if I could capture the same effect, particularly the shadows of the netting but I think it’s more of a “inspired by” rather than a copy – the shadows are slightly different and she seems considerably more melancholy than the original. I was listening to Baby I’m Broke by Lucky Soul, I guess it infected my mood! Great […]

Not Just Another Chick

February 6, 2013 by igetakickoutofyou

I’m loving I’m His Girl by Friends at the moment – almost Princess Superstar mixed with Ladyhawke. And when I came across Ashley Goldberg’s cool coloured girls I thought they just fit the song perfectly – certainly not just another chick! Enjoy…….. Diana Gwen Clementine Rosie Lily Ginger

Bunny Girls, Beasts & Bears

January 21, 2013 by igetakickoutofyou

Today I planned to do the next installment of my Buenos Aires collages but alas, the schools are closed because of the snow, so I will have two little people causing havoc today! So I thought, as a bit of a quickie, I would show you some new pin-up art that I’ve found by Natalie Krim. It’s a little more edgy than the 1950’s golden girls but totally ingenious. I absolutely look the bunny girls! If you get a chance, […]

Collages From Buenos Aires

January 14, 2013 by igetakickoutofyou

Just before Christmas I went to Buenos Aires for my aunt’s 50th Birthday. Wow – what a trip it was! I have been meaning to blog about this trip for ages but I really wanted to go through the photos and make some sort of sense of them. I didn’t really want to blog about a family holiday as it’s a bit meaningless if you don’t know the people involved. So while I was there I tried to take some […]

Dune 234

January 7, 2013 by igetakickoutofyou

From Ixelles in Belgium, comes this gorgeous neutral-toned home, courtesy of Milk Decoration. Would you believe this used to be a Japanese restaurant before Muriel Bardinet, owner of antique store Dune 234, transformed it into a home – full of industrial, Moroccan and salvage finds? Images by Karl Balas for Milk Decoration, 4th image by Serge Anton for Elle Decoration P.S. If you want to get hold of Milk Decoration you can download it digitally from Zinio

Decades of Desire

December 28, 2012 by igetakickoutofyou

I now know the best way to get the presents you desire and that’s to write a post about them. Oh yes, some of those lovely 10 Best Books found their way into my stocking this year and I am one happy gal! Now I’m not favouring one present over another, but I have to say Decades by Cameron Silver, which my cousin’s in law gave me, had me, (rather unfortunately for my family), totally mesmerised on Boxing Day. The […]

All I Want For Christmas Is You

December 4, 2012 by igetakickoutofyou

Apologies for the lack of posts recently. It’s a busy time! I’ve spent the last couple of weeks sewing marabou feathers onto corsets and making red santa capes with extra strong velcro! The reason? We got festive this week, as The Pushettes (although this time only three) performed a burlesque gig, in Dulwich, for The Reliant Magazine Christmas Do. Needless to say I have now developed an allergy to marabou feathers and my fingers are black and blue from driving […]
