London Takes On The Tux

September 17, 2013 by igetakickoutofyou

I’ve recently been writing a piece on the power of the Tux and funnily enough it seems to have translated straight to London Fashion Week. Take a look at these babies, hot off the catwalk! Tom Ford Paul Smith Sea Christopher Kane Paul Smith If you can’t wait until next summer there are some tempting Tux’s out there. I will reveal all in due course….watch this space…..

Industrial Windows

Set wide the window. Let me drink the day.

September 15, 2013 by igetakickoutofyou

This just might be the week that my beloved windows are installed – just in the nick of time, as we seem to have dived straight into autumn. My vision for the kitchen was to strive for an industrial look and, when we first thought of placing a full length window to the side of the extension, all I could think about was those gorgeous leaded windows you find in old warehouses. It raised a few eyebrows since traditionally the […]

Harpers Bazaar Espana

A Brodovitch Legacy

September 4, 2013 by igetakickoutofyou

There is a reason why I have a crush on Harper’s Bazaar España, apart from Sandra Suy’s beautiful illustrations. The attention to the layout of text, in relationship to images, is really quite something. I confess I am a terrible magazine junkie, and it may simply be the case that I am so used to reading the same magazines, I’ve become desensitised to their layout. But the creative, contoured use of text in this publication has really hit me between […]

Marc Lagrange, Diamonds and Pearls

LaGrange’s Delta of Venus

August 20, 2013 by igetakickoutofyou

Delving into Marc LaGrange’s “Diamonds and Pearls” is a bit like delving into Anais Nin’s “Delta of Venus”. Anything is possible! Part eroticism, part burlesque and part grunge, his work has touch of Helmut Newton meets a Maharaja’s Folie Bergére. Sepia shots of kohl-eyed, diamond adorned, voluptuous bodies against gritty or theatrical backdrops. A particularly magnetic combination. Personally, I prefer the single portraits like the ones below, but some of the scenarios LaGrange cooks up are more than a little intriguing and, […]

Stud Service 2120

August 16, 2013 by igetakickoutofyou

Our extension is taking so long I’m beginning to forget what’s its like to have a home. I’m itching to get the candles out and make things cosy, and without the ability to do that, I feel like I’ve lost my right arm. Apparently we have a month to go but looking outside it seems a long way off! So to cheer myself up, and live in somebody’s else’s shoes for a while, I’m lusting after Ellen Degeneres and Portia […]

Postcards With An Edge

August 9, 2013 by igetakickoutofyou

Between bouts of fighting with my children in Mallorca, over inflatable dolphins and alligators, I spotted these traditional postcards. All were taken by Arxiu Bestard/ Casa Bestard, which houses the largest archive of Mallorcan photography from the late nineteenth century up until 2006. How ingenious! I don’t really send postcards, it almost seems quite an outdated idea, or is that just me? But these are something else and certainly too beautiful to leave to the uncertainties of the post! Formentor […]

Sandra Suy, personal collection

Look At Me, I’m Sandra Suy

August 7, 2013 by igetakickoutofyou

Leafing through Harper’s Bazaar España (which I’m becoming a huge fan of), I recognised the illustrative work of Barcelona based Sandra Suy. You might recognise some of her work from the illustrations commissioned for Chloe’s sixtieth birthday? A regular on most fashion illustration pinterest boards, particularly my own, she seems to capture the most feminine, almost feline qualities of our gender – and without doubt, the best dressed! With commissions from Missoni, Zara, L’Oreal and Truimph, it’s a clear sign […]

At Home With Helena Part II

August 5, 2013 by igetakickoutofyou

Want an insight into eclectic dressing? Take a look at this interview with Helena Christensen for FutureClaw magazine, where Helena takes on the role as stylist, and creates an intimate portrayal of her kind of living. Similar to At Home With Helena Part I, let’s face it, who can resist another look at such gorgeousness? I think I just might prefer this photoshoot – what do you think? HC “There are some of my favourite items in there, yeah. It […]
