Italian Upcycling

I always feel like I’m cheating if I blog about something that I’ve read in this month’s magazine – it just doesn’t really feel like a discovery.

Today I don’t care!

October Elle Decoration came through the letter box this weekend and there’s a studio which needs to be shared.

Owned by Draga Obradovic and her husband Aurel Basedow, the studio is a reflection of what the couple do best – “upcycling”. (Transforming tattered, timeworn pieces into unique items that are part objet trouvé, part design with the help of painted fabrics and resins)

Their unique work now features in Anthropologie and through the cult italian brand Baxter. And if you don’t want to buy it you can always try creating it by following Draga and Aurel’s advice:

“Before buying something new, or throwing away something old, try to rediscover the beauty in the objects you already own by re-purposing, re-covering or stripping them back. Often, it’s simply a matter of how you look at a thing and trying to see it differently”.

Anyone tempted to get the staple gun out? If so, take a look at the rest of the images from photographer Fabrizio Ciccone.

Massively inspiring.

Shame it’s the end of the bank holiday, although, I can think of a few people who are probably breathing a big sigh of relief, particularly as unearthing the staple gun would be a job in itself!
