Kate does the 30s

May 11, 2012 by igetakickoutofyou

And to inspire some vintage-style dressing this weekend…………Kate, who does the 30’s so well. Need I say more? Well, at least, with the weather being what it is, there is no reason why berets and boas should look out of place this spring! Have a good weekend – I believe it’s actually going to stop raining. Italians Do It Better – Part 1

May 2, 2012 by igetakickoutofyou

While reading the Vogue article, featured in the last post, I came across a picture of Kate Moss in a Dolce & Gabbana swagger coat and rose embroidered dress – it looked so fresh but so 1950s, I was totally smitten. How this collection passed me by, I just don’t know – but could I find any images? Hell, no – nowhere. I even bought “10 Years of Dolce & Gabbana” but to no avail, although it proves rather essential […]

She wears it well

April 30, 2012 by igetakickoutofyou

This post started with a bit of pondering over the issue why dress in vintage? A couple of weeks ago I read a post by The Bright Young Twins asking people’s opinions on why vintage has become so popular. The post itself is great and what is interesting is all the different responses that came back – ranging from choosing vintage because of body shape – to the wasteful nature of society today – to the way in which women […]

Who’s Pussy Footing Around?

April 4, 2012 by igetakickoutofyou

When I met Jason Brooks and David Downton at the Fashion Illustration event, back in December, they also had a selection of second hand illustration books. I managed to pick up this really cute one on Andy Warhol (which you can still purchase second hand) : You generally don’t think passed his silkscreens, as they’re so iconic, but these early illustrations, when Andy worked for the likes of Harpers Bazaar and Vogue, are really gorgeous. Simon Doonan, in the foreward […]

Vintage Christy Turlington – African Queen

April 2, 2012 by igetakickoutofyou

My mum returned from visiting my family in South Africa at the weekend – boy, did it make me home-sick. I then happened to be going through some of my old Vogue magazines and found one of my most favourite fashion shoots, Vogue January 1992 – Christy Turlington does White Mischief and Out of Africa. Two of my most favourite films. If you have never seen them – the fashion, the story, and the scenery in both are just too […]

Strawberry Daiquiri

March 7, 2012 by igetakickoutofyou

Inspired by Emilia Wickstead’s Autumn Winter 2012 collection, today’s inspired buys are all strawberry flavoured. Two colours which should be a no-no – pink and red, work gloriously – from the Mae West Salvador Dali sofa to vintage Audrey Hepburn. This is a vintage colour combination – think red nails and lips with a pale pink ensemble. And some strawberry treats to tempt the purse strings – just in time for spring! APC Top 180E Plumo Jackson Dress – £215 Chanel N05 […]

Pretending to be Plain

January 19, 2012 by igetakickoutofyou

“Carmen Dell’Orefice..who has had three husbands and more hot dinner boyfriends than one cares to count later, is still known as just plain Carmen – though the plain has nothing whatsoever to do with her appearance” Norman Parkinson I was fortunate enough to catch the Carmen Dell’Orefice exhibition at the London School of Fashion, at what I thought was the very end date – however – lucky readers, they have just extended the exhibition to the 31st January. So after […]
