Ivy Jacobsen

Underwater Ivy

May 28, 2014 by igetakickoutofyou

I’ve been feeling so guilty of late from my lack of posting, so I was delighted when I found Ivy Jacobsen’s paintings on Pinterest, they are so beautiful they just have to be shared. There’s a real sense of underwater tranquility – totally mesmerising! For some reason, perhaps due to the murky backdrops, “The Waterbabies” comes to mind. I’m just waiting for a little mermaid to pop out out of a giant Allium.

The Tale of Talitha

May 4, 2014 by igetakickoutofyou

Love this photo shoot by Tom Craig for Porter Magazine. Very reminiscent of the photographs Patrick Lichfield took of Talitha Getty, the queen of Marrakesh kool in the early 70s: It was here where he [Yves Saint Laurent] met one of his muses, the ill-fated and impossibly beautiful Talitha Getty (supposedly the only woman Rudolf Nureyev was ever attracted to). Her opulent Moroccan palace, which she shared with her oil heir husband was the setting for some of the decade’s most […]

Soul Sanctuary

April 3, 2014 by igetakickoutofyou

“It’s not about rules; it’s about soul”, says Alina Preciado, proud owner of this fabulous loft in Brooklyn. A former textile warehouse, this abode is now littered with trinkets, art and sculpture from around the world, creating a perfect artistic fusion between the loft’s industrial past and it’s bohemian present. Trish, this one’s for you….. Images Mark Seelen & Chris A Dorsey

Whitewash & Doodles

March 28, 2014 by igetakickoutofyou

I love this apartment in Madrid, belonging to photographer Manolo Yllera. You’d have to be pretty confident in your freestyle doodling to go to town on your walls though. But I guess thats what white paint is for – let the game’s begin! Images by Manolo Yllera

A Russian Reveal

March 26, 2014 by igetakickoutofyou

These 1930’s nudes by Russian photographer Alexander Grinberg very nearly didn’t survive. As a celebrated photographer teaching at the Moscow Society of Photographers he was imprisoned in a labour camp for five years, during the Stalinist regime, for producing work described as “dangerous to society”. Fortunately for us his older brother hid the negatives and his beautiful images live on. Grinberg witnessed the Russian Revolution, the Civil War, two World Wars and the Stalinist repression. He died at the ripe old age of […]

Other Stories, Spring Summer 2014

Boho Loco…and Other Stories

March 21, 2014 by igetakickoutofyou

Other Stories have just released their online spring summer fashion story, featuring a bohemian parisian in an amazing apartment…..who happens to be slightly unhinged! But never mind that…look at the clothes. They are oh so good. Apparently there is a subtext, which points to the changes that need to be made to the way in which women are portrayed both in, and by the fashion industry. Hmmm…think I missed that bit – probably too busy looking at the clothes!

Closet Visit, Vena Cava

Closet Envy

March 19, 2014 by igetakickoutofyou

There seem to be a lot of blogs out there with an emphasis on personal style right now. But ironically it sometimes feels like everyone looks the same. Closetvisit, however, has really grabbed my attention.  Firstly, I’m happy to say that these are visits into real closets (and even happier to say that some are as chaotic as my own). Secondly, there’s a broad age spectrum and an even broader range of styles. Something for everyone no less. I’m totally hooked….

The Illuminati

March 17, 2014 by igetakickoutofyou

Nestled in the olive groves of Southern Italy stands a traditional stone lamia with a difference. Renovated by architect Marco Constanzi, original dusty pink pietra di Lecce stone shimmers under starry beams of light. Enjoy… Photography: Mads Mogensen
